Tobruk Sunday commemorative service

image3-35

Thank you to all who attended our Tobruk Sunday commemorative service at Tobruk House on Sunday. We were extremely honoured to have Australia’s Governor General, the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, join us for a wonderful afternoon of remembrance. Despite the grey skies, the service was able to continue uninterrupted with ROTA chairperson Stuart Tolliday conducting proceedings with precision. Guest speaker Keith Wolahan, himself a veteran, delivered a moving address which impressed all present, before wreaths were laid by diplomatic and Port Phillip Council representatives, as well as descendants of the Rats of Tobruk.                                                                                                 After the service, those present were invited to Tobruk House for a light lunch, where people were able to catch up with friends or make new ones. The Governor General also mingled, before being presented with a ‘Ratbag’ containing our newly published book and, in return, presenting us with a plaque. This most successful day will be hard to beat next year, but you will have another opportunity to be involved with ROTA with Anzac Day being just around the corner. Tobruk House will be open from 9am for people wishing to watch the march and enjoy a cuppa while they wait for a BBQ lunch which will be served at around 12.30.

Only $35pp! We do hope to see you there.
